Update: School Closure Continues

Hello Star Families,

As you may have heard today, our WCDSB school closure will extend until May 1st, 2020 in response to the current Covid19 health crisis. Please read the attached letter from our Director of Education and Chair of the Board.

Letter to Parents School Closure COVID 19 Mar31 20

Next week we will be moving into teacher-led remote learning and to prepare for that our teachers have been making contact with all students. There are still families that we have not been successful at connecting with. If you see a “private caller“, it could be a teacher calling so please consider answering the phone. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher, you can contact them through an email which can be found on our school website here.

We hope you are all well!

St. Aloysius Updates

Hello Stars and Families,

We wanted to reach out and say hello and that we are thinking of you! We hope that you are all healthy and staying safe by staying home. A special thank you to all who are working within essential services to keep us safe and our community operating.

Our St. Aloysius staff met virtually this week and we are working hard to navigate this unique learning situation. Classroom teachers are currently in the process of reaching out to all families to say hello and determine student readiness to learn. WCDSB is well underway to making a plan for remote learning as we recognize that every family situation is different. For now, we are encouraging students to regularly check their Google Classroom or D2L site. Some teachers are in the process of setting this up now. Learning will be coming but in the meantime, our #STEAMDays activities and math calendars are great ways for students to be learning, as well as reading and doing movement activities each day. The most important thing right now is the well-being of our students, families, and educators. We appreciate your patience and flexibility!

Our prayers are with you during this time.

MATH Activities

Hello Stars and Families,

We hope you are all healthy and enjoying some family time together. We miss you and can’t wait to see all our students and families soon!

Have you seen the math calendars that our WCDSB Math Consultant has shared? There is a calendar for every grade (Kindergarten to Grade 8) and each day there is an activity for your child to do. Here is the link to the calendars. These are great activities to keep the learning happening and to allow your child to practice their math skills. Happy MATH-ing!

Stay in. Stay safe.

Student Learning Opportunity During School Closure

Have you heard that STEAM days are coming starting on Monday, March 23rd?

What is STEAM?

STEAM stands for “Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics“. STEAM is a more innovative approach to learning than traditional paper and pencil tasks. The activities are hands-on and involve critical thinking, communication and creativity. These activities are great for students of all ages and we encourage parents to get involved too.

Watch this video to learn more about STEAM days at WCDSB.

Our goal is to keep our students learning and assist parents with providing rich learning activities that keep kids engaged.  This is the website to check each day to see what learning opportunities have been shared.

We encourage you to share photos, videos or learning stories on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #STEAMDays. We look forward to seeing the awesome learning that is happening even though we are not in our school buildings.

Stay safe. Stay healthy.

WCDSB School Closures

Dear Families,

St. Aloysius School AND extended day program will be CLOSED from March 14, 2020 to April 5, 2020. This is a result of the Government of Ontario’s order for all publicly funded schools in Ontario to remain closed in response to the COVID-19 virus.

Please see our WCDSB webpage for further updates (available in multiple languages).

At this time, Public Health advises the following steps to be followed by residents of Waterloo Region:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and/or cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm, not into your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Avoid misinformation. Region of Waterloo Public Health continues to provide up-to-date and evidence-based information’ on their website so that you have the information you need to make informed decisions about your health:
