Stars Update
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe March is coming to an end this week! We remain in the season of Lent and we are preparing for Easter to celebrate our Risen Lord. The readings for the 5th Sunday of Lent remind us of the importance of our faith, the promise of God’s mercy and forgiveness, and the compassion and empathy that Jesus shows towards others.
Benjamin’s Box: The Story of the Resurrection Eggs
In each classroom, the book, Benjamin’s Box: The Story of the Resurrection Eggs will be shared as a way for our students to learn more about the Easter Story as we continue on our Lenten journey – following Jesus as He shows mercy, forgiveness, hope and love. Let’s shine the light of our faith, Stars!
Story Summary: When Jesus comes to Jerusalem, Benjamin first thinks he is a teacher, then a king. But as he follows Jesus throughout the week, filling his wooden box with special treasures along the way, he finally learns the REAL good news—Jesus is all about love!
Spring Field Conditions
With the warmer temperatures and the snow melting, the field conditions at school are currently very muddy. For recess, this means that, at times, our students will be asked to stay off the fields and play on the blacktop. We monitor the fields each day to make these decisions. A reminder that all students must have a pair of indoor shoes at school to change into. If available, we would also suggest students bring splash pants and boots…some of us are drawn to puddles! Thank you.
Upcoming Assessments
Students in Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 will be involved in system/provincial testing as follows:
- CCAT for Grade 4 students will be between March 29th and April 5th
- CAT4 for grade 7 students will be between April 12th and 19th
- EQAO for grades 3 and 6 will be between May 10th and June 14th
PD Day – Friday, March 31st
There will be no school for students this Friday, March 31st. Staff will be participating in Professional Development. The Extended Day Program WILL be running for those students currently enrolled in the program. Enjoy the long weekend, Stars!
Stars Update
Dear Families,
Welcome back everyone! We hope that our students and families enjoyed a great March Break and that everyone is feeling energized for the coming months ahead! Together, we have already accomplished so much during this school year and we look forward to more exciting new learning and fun in the next few months. With spring officially arriving tomorrow, we also hope for warmer weather and brighter days to come. Our staff can’t wait to see you tomorrow, Stars!
Tuesday, March 21st – World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. Since chromosomes look like socks, you can ‘ROCK, YOUR SOCKS’ by wearing mismatched, colourful, and zany socks to show your support and create awareness. Help raise awareness of what Down Syndrome is, what it means to have Down Syndrome, and how people with Down Syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities and have the right to the same opportunities as everyone else.

Our Lenten Journey Continues
As we continue our journey toward Easter this year, we want to remember that God loves us and is there for us always. In this week’s readings, the 4th Sunday of Lent, we hear reminders that we must live in the light, not in darkness. We are encouraged us to live as children of the light, doing what is good, right, and true. We have a responsibility to do what we can to make our world a better place as we continue to be stewards of His gift.
Have a wonderful week, Stars!

Social Worker Appreciation Week!
Social Worker Appreciation! |
The Staff and students at St. Aloysius would like to take the opportunity today, to say a huge THANK YOU to all our Social Workers! Mrs. Samuels, your contributions to our school community are often overlooked and understated, but we want to let you know that your role on our team is valued! Your commitment to our students when they are at their most vulnerable and your willingness to support the many adults in our buildings, demonstrate that you are here for us! Knowing that someone like you is there to support us is reassuring and comforting. Your role is vital to the success of our system, and we wanted to make sure that today especially, you know how thankful we are for YOU! |
Stars Update
Dear Families,
Well, the first week of March has certainly brought us more snow and winter-like weather! As we continue our journey together into the month of March, we are seeing more hours of sunlight as we approach Spring and the season of Easter. This Lent, we hope that our Star family may continue to spend time reflecting on Pope Francis’ words to fast from things that may bring challenge and instead concentrate on caring for our neighbours, loving ourselves, and loving our God.
March Break
This year, March Break will be from March 13th to 17th. Please note that the Extended Day Program will not be running at our school during this time. Enjoy your week together as a family!
St. Aloysius Church Parking Lot
A reminder to all families that the parking lot beside our school belongs to St. Aloysius Church and they are sharing the space with us. Both the church and our school staff have been noticing some significant safety concerns. To this end, we need to share a few reminders:
- The “roadway” in the parking lot is ONE WAY only.
- Please always use extreme caution and drive slowly through the lot – students and parishioners may be walking to/from their vehicles.
- Please park your car in one of the designated parking spaces only. There is no stop and drop area in the lot.
- Please follow the direction of any school staff member wearing a safety vest.
- The front facing spaces closet to the school are closed to parked vehicles before/after school as this is a school bus loading/unloading zone. Please follow the signage in those spaces.
Taking a few extra moments in the morning and after school will help ensure that we work together for the safety of all. Thank you.
Stars Spirit Day
This Friday, March 10th, we will be celebrating an early St. Patrick’s Day at St. Aloysius School! Students and staff are encouraged to wear green and bring their lucky shamrocks! We will also be playing a whole-school bingo game as we head into March Break.
Looking forward to a great week together, Stars!
