Stars Update
Dear Families,
Wow! We are already moving into the month of March this week! With all the ice and snow we have recently experienced, we look forward to the signs of spring and our continued journey through the liturgical season of Lent. Lent is a time of prayer and preparation for Easter, the holiest of our Catholic liturgical seasons. At school, we will be recognizing each week of Lent with a school liturgy as we pause to reflect on our own personal sacrifices. Students and families are also encouraged to consider ways they can mark this special time in our faith lives at home also.
This Month’s Umbrella Skill – Autonomy
This month, the Umbrella Project is focused on the skill that helps us think and do for ourselves and confidently make our own choices when faced with uncertain situations. This skill is Autonomy. What will autonomy do for my child?
When we have autonomy, we feel empowered to make decisions that can improve our lives instead of feeling that our lives are outside of our control. Having autonomy increases our motivation and ability to do things for ourselves and can make tasks feel less like work and more enjoyable. Research on autonomy in more than 80 countries has shown a positive connection to our well-being. The feeling that our life is self-directed has wide reaching implications on almost every aspect of our well-being, from our engagement in school to our honesty at home. It forms the foundation of our independence. ~Dr. Jen, Umbrella Project
Stars Spirit Day
In addition to our regular Wednesday Spirit Day (wear blue and white and/or your Stars spiritwear), we will be having a Sports/Clubs Jersey Day on Thursday, March 2nd! Show us who you cheer for, Stars!
Lunch Hour Supervisor Appreciation!
This Friday, March 3rd is Lunch Hour Supervisor (LHS) Appreciation Day! Our LHS are outside in all kinds of weather, they cover our classes for us and MOST importantly, they build relationships with our entire school community! Ms. Bando, Ms. Quessy, Ms. Tondreau, Mr. Zach, and Ms. Zinyemba – our school would not be the same without you! You are truly shining stars and we want to say THANK YOU!
Finally, we would like to thank our families for your ongoing support! Working in collaboration with you really makes a huge impact and helps us make our school a great place to learn and grow.
Have a wonderful week, Stars!

Stars Update
Dear Families,
Although February is a short month, there are many great things happening across our school. We celebrated our 100th day of school last week and we continue to learn about the contributions of Black excellence in our communities both past and present. Today we celebrate Family Day – a special opportunity to celebrate the gift of family with those you love. May your day be filled with happiness, laughter and joy.
Shrove Tuesday (Tomorrow, February 21st)
Shrove Tuesday (also known as “Pancake Day”) is the day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. As a school community, we will celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a school-wide Pancake Breakfast served after morning announcements on Tuesday, February 21st. Thank you to our staff and parent volunteers for making this possible. Note: Students should still bring their snacks and lunch for the day.
The Holy Season of Lent Begins on Ash Wednesday (Wednesday, February 22nd)
Ash Wednesday begins the Holy Season of Lent in our Catholic faith tradition. During Lent, we begin a spiritual journey in the hopes of deepening our relationship with God. As a school and faith community, we will be sharing in a Liturgy of the Word at St. Aloysius Church at 10:00 a.m. Ashes will be distributed on our foreheads to symbolize the dust from which God made each of us.
Pink Shirt Day – A Day of Friendship (Wednesday, February 22nd)
The theme for this year’s Pink Shirt Day is “Lift Each Other Up”. This is such a simple, yet powerful, message encouraging us to look beyond our differences embrace our cultures, identities, and true selves in more open and direct ways; creating a beautiful opportunity for greater acceptance, respect, and inclusion in our Catholic schools. When we lift each other up, we see past the things that separate us and instead, we see the things that unite us as people. Let’s be kind and lift each other up in word and deed this Pink Shirt Day, and all year round! Don’t forget to wear your pink shirt on WEDNESDAY!
